FROM SEED TO SHORE

The creation of a linen piece is an art of patience, following a meticulous 10-step journey from the field to the finished fabric. This long process is what ensures its superior quality

1. FLAX SEED

It all begins with the seed, sown in the spring in rich, well-prepared soil.

2. GROWTH

Nature takes its course for about 100 days until the plant reaches a height of around 1.20 m, with 80 to 100 leaves.

3. RETTING

Unlike other plants, flax is never cut; it is pulled from the ground to preserve the full length of the fiber. The stalks remain in the field or in tanks for several days so that moisture can naturally separate the textile fibers from the woody core.

4. SCUTCHING

A mechanical operation that breaks and removes the woody parts to extract the raw fibers.

5. COMBING

Fibers are sorted and aligned to create a soft, continuous, and lustrous ribbon-like sliver.

6. FIRST-PASS AND FINISHING SLIVER

After the initial sorting, the fibers undergo several passes to ensure a perfectly consistent and high-quality alignment.

7. RAW WICK PREPARATION

The combed fibers are prepared for spinning, taking on a characteristic “puffy” appearance known as a raw wick.

8. BLEACHING

The flax sliver is bleached to achieve the desired clarity for dyeing.

9. SPINNING

The final transformation of the wick into fine linen yarn, creating the first bobbins.

10. WEAVING & FINISHING

The yarn is woven on machines and then passed through a finishing machine to soften the fabric for ultimate comfort.
