There’s been something between the French and the Brazilians ever since Vilebrequin’s love story with swimwear began back in the early 70s… By then, Saint-Tropez and Búzios were already the center of a new world, where joie de vivre and elegance made great partners.

Over time, Brazil has become Vilebrequin’s second home. IT STARTED WITH A KISS…

…and a pair of swim shorts! Vilebrequin’s love story with swimwear began in 1971 when the founder put his heart and soul into designing a swimsuit he could feel confident wearing in front of the woman of his dreams. This was St-Tropez, where creativity and freedom were the only rules, even if that meant mixing board shorts with boubous…!

If you own a Vilebrequin garment, there’s a strong chance you love the ocean. It’s no secret we do. Our responsibility as individuals, as a company, and as a society is to ensure this love endures through actions that are realistic and purposeful.

“We’ve been working on implementing more sustainable practices at all levels of the business for some time now, but there’s still a long way to go. We’re far from perfect! But the question we ask ourselves daily at Vilebrequin is: what could we be doing differently? How can we save on resources while still producing the highest quality garments on the market?”

By 2021, over 50% of Vilebrequin products will be made using exclusively recycled materials under the “Save The Oceans" label. The best gift we could ask for in our 50th anniversary year!

BUILDING STRONG FOUNDATIONS

Isn’t that the key to any lasting relationship? As plastics continue to choke our oceans, threatening its fragile ecosystem, Vilebrequin refuses to sit by on the sidelines. Building on our partnerships with ocean charities such as the Fondation Cousteau and French-Polynesian sea turtle conservancy Te mana o te moana, we’re proud to announce the launch of our own Foundation in 2021.

“As we celebrate 50 years of Vilebrequin and look forward to 50 more, it felt important do something that will have real and positive meaning for the oceans. Setting up our own Foundation will enable us to increase our efforts significantly, especially with regard to education.”
