STICKING OUR NECK OUT FOR SEA TURTLES

01 May 2020 - Events

For four years now, Vilebrequin has been working hand in hand with Moorea-based sea turtle conservancy Te Mana o Te Moana. We’re pleased to report some very encouraging news. And to tell you how you can lend us your support – just by wearing your swim shorts.

FLIPPING THE CONVERSATION

Bycatch, climate change, ocean pollution, illegal trade, habitat loss…

These are just some of the obstacles sea turtles face over the course of their lives. It’s currently estimated only 1 in 1000 sea turtles will make it to adulthood – a shell-shocking statistic.

Back in 2016, Vilebrequin began working with French Polynesian non-profit Te Mana o Te Moana to flip the conversation on sea turtle conservation. With your kind support, Vilebrequin has helped finance the day-to-day running of a Turtle Care Clinic at the InterContinental Moorea Resort & Spa.

NOT JUST SURVIVING. THRIVING.

The latest stats just arrived from Moorea – and they’re truly heartwarming.

111 injured guests cared for at the Turtle Care Clinic.
1423 green sea turtles rescued on the Tetiaroa atoll.
1500+ sea turtles released back into the ocean.

More great news for turtles !

MAKING DURABLE CHANGES

At Vilebrequin, we try to look beyond the stats and trends. Our philosophy has always been about making durable choices. Ones that effect long-term change.

Together with Te mana o te moana, we believe in the importance of educating future generations so they become more aware of the potential threats to marine environments. Through targeted awareness initiatives such as workshops, we’ve been able to provide over 50 000 locals with the information and reflexes they need to protect the oceans.

MAPPEMONDE DOTS 2020 LIMITED EDITION TRUNK

Saving the oceans is something we can all do on some level. For Vilebrequin, the idea for a charity father-and-son swim short was our way of getting you directly involved in this project. 20 562 pairs have been sold over the last four years, raising $164,000 in funds for Te mana o te moana.
Thank you on behalf of all the sea turtles you’ve helped.

Tailored from 100% recycled polyamide, the 2020 limited edition Mappemonde Dots print – the fifth since our partnership began – comes in light azure with statement red accents. A colorful reminder of an increasingly urgent situation. $10 from every sale goes directly to the association.

So go ahead and dig deep into your (swimsuit) pockets this summer!
